課程概述

This is a college-level English course designed to help students develop integrated skills in English. The emphasis will be put on four interconnected and equally important dimensions of language learning, that is, listening, speaking, reading, and writing. During the semester, the course offers different interactive workshops to help students enhance their understanding about the texts of English, communicate with each other through English, and elaborate their ideas in English. The course will cover various topics related to issues of contemporary society by using different learning resources, including articles, book chapters, short stories, news, news radios, essays, films, etc. Students are expected to spend approximately two hours a week to prepare for class and complete course assignments. 

課程目標
1. To help students develop methodologies to enhance English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
2. To introduce cultural topics which preoccupy the present intellectual world.
3. To enhance students’ critical and sophisticated thinking.
4. To enhance students’ ability to discuss and write on complex, intellectual issues in English. 
課程要求
1. Class attendance and active participation.
2. Class activities and exercises.
3. Close teamwork.

Major Assignments:
1. Students need to study a variety of texts and give a 30-minute group presentation.
2. Each student will write a passage of 150-200 words.
3. Each student will deliver a 3-minute speech.
